I often see Strawberry Crown Moths (Synanthedon bibionipennis) on strawberry and raspberry plants in the summer. Larvae bore into the roots near the crown or in the stems stems just above the ground. They attack many members of the rose family (Rosaceae). They are native to the Pacific Northwest.
